Sabbatical leave

In June i decided to stop singing at church, which i’ve been doing since i was 17ish.
I don’t make decisions quickly…this one had been brewing in the back of my mind for a good couple of years. lol.

The email i sent to the music leader held phrases like this,

singing feels empty…. It’s not really coming out of a place that is real for me.
…want to strip everything back and really try to focus on god.

Now that was fairly vague lol. so i want to explore it more. What does all that jargon mean?

A while ago i was challenged through church and hearing Grant Norsworthy speak, about what worship really means. Definately worth a read!
“True worth-ship of God is shown as I surrender my life: my pride, my selfishness, my willfulness, my rights to lead my own existence.”

“Singing – One of the most practiced things that followers of Jesus love to do, He never asked us to do!”… “It is far too easy to let singing be the most obvious outward expression of our love for God when it is our lavish, selfless and outrageous love for people – even the unlovable – that should define us.”

“Every poet and musician and artist, but for Grace, is drawn away from the love of the thing he tells, to the love of the telling till, down in Deep Hell, they cannot be interested in God at all but only in what they say about Him”  – C.S. Lewis (The Great Divorce)

Hello! Thanks for your encouragement. It was great to hear your thoughts on worship when you spoke in launceston. I found it thoughtful, bold and inspired so thanks for the challenge and keep sharing.
